I purchased bitdefender Internet Security 2009 and it is a terrible product. It has caused problems with my internet connection, Gmail, the auto-scan does not work, customer service is terrible and they won’t refund my money. I will never buy another bitdefender product and suggest no one else does either.

How can this new iterateraition of an old threat get by up to date real-time anti virus scanners? I’ve now seen it infect systems running up to date Avast and also Micro Trend Officescan. I would image it has passed through others.

From what I understand, this is the same crap as XP Antivirus 2007 and 2008. Also have read that it morphs into Antivirus VIP. Anyway, I’m mainly confused as to how it it bypassing scanners? I suspect (because I was not present when the infection occurred) that when an infected web page popped up a message to click on a link to download a repair for the poor users infected system, that they clicked on it and {purposely} installed the virus. But still, it seems to disable resident scanners.

Sunbelt Vipre Review – Part 4 … sunbelt vipre review antivirus malware xp 2008 adware vundo

The title makes it obvious that Antivirus Sentry is not what it says it is. Antivirus Sentry is really a rogue antispyware program. The computer industry calls these programs ?rogues? because they are fake. These programs are traps to separate you from your money and to take control of your computer in the process.

Some basic information about Antivirus Sentry in particular is that we have seen this program before. Antivirus Sentry is a clone of Vista Antivirus and MS Antivirus2008. These programs are part of the Innovagest 2000 family. Let me tell you a little about the Innovagest 2000 family. Innovagest 2000 is a company that creates and distributes nothing but rogue antispyware programs. That?s correct ? a company dedicated to scamming you out of your money and using your computer for its own purposes.

Programs like Antivirus Sentry are spread through either the Vundo or Zlob Trojans. These Trojans get on your computer any number of ways. You could have gone to a porn site and a corrupt advertisement or video infected your computer. You could have gotten a corrupt or infected file while using a file sharing program. You could have opened a spam email and clicked on the file attached. Or the Trojan could have disguised itself as a video or ActiveX codec in an infected free download.

Once on your computer, the Vundo or Zlob Trojan will flood your computer with pop-ups telling you that your computer is infected or false security alerts telling you that your computer is under attack. Your web browser will be hijacked and you will be taken to antivirussentry.com. At the website a fake scan will run and then tell you that you are infected with a variety of malware.

At this point you are pressured to purchase the ?full version? of Antivirus Sentry. The price will be $34.95, $49.95 or $119.95. If you give your credit card information you get nothing useful back. This is because Antivirus Sentry has already installed itself on your computer without your permission by this point. If you pay the money you will only get more malware, spyware and adware in exchange.

Antivirus Sentry is a resource hog. Your computer will slow down. The programming is shoddy and causes conflicts, which cause errors and freezes. This accelerates the wear and tear of your computer. If you look at your running processes you will see that Antivirus Sentry uses more of your CPU than your most demanding programs.

If you try to remove Antivirus Sentry through Add/Remove Programs you will find on system log in that Add/Remove Programs does not work. At system log on Antivirus Sentry will be running as if you never tried to uninstall it. Some people who are well versed in the registry will try to manually remove the infection. I do not suggest this route because removal can take hours and if you miss a single file Antivirus Sentry will reinstall itself. Not only that, but if you remove the wrong file you could cause Windows not to run.

What I suggest instead is for you to get a real, dependable antispyware program. There are many out there for $40 or less. Once you have an antispyware program on your computer, keep it updated and it can prevent any further infections by rogue antispyware or the Trojans that spread them.

As rogue applications go, Ultra Antivirus 2009 is not new, it is just the latest in a long line of clones. I guess the scammers behind this new version believe that a simple name change will allow them to con more consumers out of millions of dollars just like its predecessor. Unfortunately they are probably right.

When it comes to rogue applications scammers are making a killing infecting people?s computers and there does not seem to be any end in sight. In a few short years rogue applications have managed to grow into one of the biggest problems on the Internet, with no concerted effort to stop it. Most of the scammers behind these parasitic programs operate outside of most law enforcement agencies which give them virtual immunity to con people. The fact is the only thing most consumers can do to protect themselves is to find a good reliable malware protection and removal program they can trust.

As with all types of rogue applications, Ultra Antivirus 2009 is designed to scare people into believing their computers are infected and the only way to clean up the infections is to purchase a full version of the software that caused the infection in the first place. Common tactics employed by these programs include scary popups, fake scans, and redirected web browser searches.

In most cases the scary popups will claim that there are dozens of threats on the consumer?s computer, but the reality is that there is not. The scans that these rogue programs do just use up resources and pretend that they are really scanning for something, when they are not. But the most annoying aspect of most rogue applications are the redirected web searches, meaning that when someone believes their computer is infected they could find it difficult to find the best way to clean it up.

Getting rid of Ultra Antivirus 2009 as well as any other type of rogue application can be extremely time consuming, especially if the infection was caused by a trojan like Zlob. This trojan is one of the hardest ones to clean off of a computer. One of the reasons for this is that there are currently over 32 different variants of Zlob with more being released each month.

With all the work that is required to figure out how to remove these types of problems from a computer it is usually better to install a reliable malware removal and protection program.

When looking for a malware removal and protection program it is not always best to get the most well known one available. Many of the trojans and rogue applications target all the big names rendering them useless. This is generally the reason why most protection programs will not or cannot offer any type of guarantee. Some of the lesser know protection programs offer guarantees because they are not only safer when it comes to being blocked by these application, they also have some of the best programmers in the industry working hard to keep their users safe.

If you are looking for a reliable malware protection program start by trying to find one that has a 100% guarantee, because if they can offer a guarantee they know their product will protect their users.

The anti-virus I’m talking about is better than anything else out there. It can detect any virus or malware threat as soon as it appears, uses no part of your Computer, is completely free, and doesn’t require you do download Internet updates! You’ve had it your whole life and use it everyday. What is it?

Common sense!

I often hear people talk about how many viruses and malware they get. I, on the hand, keep my AVG anti-virus off a good portion of the time and get very few viruses or malware. Instead, I use common sense. Below is a general overview of how to use common sense as an anti virus.

I never download email attachments from anyone unless I’m expecting one. I usually don’t miss out on much, either. Aunt Marge’s family pictures were never interesting anyway.

I am always careful before clicking on links in emails from places such as Amazon, PayPal, and Ebay that I’m not expecting. If I am very curious about an email, I just search the subject on Google and am able to find out whether it’s a security threat or not.

I use Firefox as my primary web browser. Internet Explorer has too many security holes. Though Firefox has security holes, they’re not exploited like IE’s security holes are and are generally patched much faster.

I notice when my computer acts unusual. If you use your computer frequently, you should know when it accesses the hard drive and what applications give you a high CPU usage. If I notice anything out of the ordinary, I always check my Task Manager for any unusual processes.

Know what processes usually run on your PC (press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then click processes to see). You don’t need to memorize them, but be familiar with them. If you suspect your computer is infected with a virus or adware, you’ll usually see a process or two in the task manager that are unfamiliar. If ever unsure about what a process is, search it on Google to find out more about it.

If you are into downloading things that cause the RIAA to get upset, don’t use P2P clients such as Limewire, WinMX, Grokster, or Kazaa. When using bittorrent, make sure you read a torrent’s comments before downloading to make sure there are no viruses in it. If you absolutely must stay with P2P clients such as Limewire, keep a second computer (it can be anything, even something ten years old) for downloading your files. Scan the files for viruses before moving them to your main computer.

If you must download something that you think could contain a virus, always scan the file with an anti-virus before opening.

Don’t become paranoid. The threat of viruses and malware is taken too seriously by many. While everyone should take precautions against viruses, there’s no need to be a “virusphobe”

This guide is by no means meant to be a substitution for an anti-virus. In fact, I strongly recommend you use one. In addition, the best judge of what security measures you need to take is you. Everyone’s computer is different so everyone has different security needs.
