It is still not known whether the perceived threat posed by the virus, variously known as Conficker, Downadup, and Kido, will actually turn out to be the biggest ever internet April Fool’s joke or is actually a serious computer threat.

The virus buries itself deep inside a the Windows operating system, where it can be used by hackers to steal users’ passwords and personal information, including bank details, credit card information and any other types of personal information.

Once it is invoked by the pc user, it proceeds to download information from a controlling server, other infected PCs then form a network or a “botnet” and can “talk” to each other, updating and evolving. The source of the downloaded files can then be redistributed among the millions of infected computers. The botnet is basically a drone pc that passes on the malicious programs to other computers. Although your pc may only be serving the malicious files and not actually dong anything else, it can render your pc useless while it download the files and eats your bandwidth.

Experts believe that from midnight on April 1, the Conficker program will start scanning thousands of websites for a new set of instructions telling it what to do next.

At this point, no one really know what the intent is.

Symantec has released a Conficker, Downadup, and Kido virus cleaner which can be downloaded here.

Stay tuned for further developments!

There is nothing ’secure’ about Security Center. If you are one of the unfortunate thousands of people with this spyware infection on your computer, you must get rid of it quickly. Security Center spreads through trojans Bundo and Zlob and will destroy your system if given the chance it needs. It will hijack your internet browser, adjust your desktop, annoy you with popups, and attempt to steal your credit card information using high pressure marketing tactics and fake scans. Don’t let another moment pass. Get rid of Security Center now.

Before Security Center pop-up ads make you throw your computer out of the window, let me tell you how to remove the threat. If your system is sluggish, if your desktop has changed, if your homepage has been hijacked, and if you are constantly annoyed by pop-ups then you definitely have this virus or another just like it. You need to get rid of any spyware threat, because the most evil spyware will record your keystrokes and use your bank information and personal information to steal your identity. It’s a nightmare.

If you are an advanced computer user you can attempt to manually remove this awful spyware, but I only recommend experts take a shot at this. If you do consider yourself an expert, first backup your system and registry and then proceed to delete all SecurityCenter files from your program files folder, your start menu, and your HKEY_LOCAL_USER folder.

Automatic Removal – I recommend automatic removal even for experts, as a simple slip-up can be deadly to your system if you try the manual route. To automatically remove this infection you just need to run a trusted and reviewed spyware removal tool. I primarily use Spyware Doctor, it provides a free scan to see if you’re infected, and has terrific customer service and future protection against similar threats.

Don’t let spyware thieves rob you of your system files and of your identity. Head over to my site, download the scanner of your choice, and remove Security Center.

Classified under the category of trojans, backdoor trojan viruses aren?t as feared as their more popular malware kin ? fast-replicating worms and file-infecting viruses. Trojans are nonetheless dangerous and may prove to be a greater problem, particularly as users could be unaware of their presence in a computer system.

Trojans are distributed in various ways: scanning a network and finding vulnerable computers; creating a website that exploits browser weaknesses and silently install the trojan on visitors; or distributing tons of emails with tempting baits that entice users to download a file, watch a video or simply visit a site. The trojan horse payload may be harmless, but most are computer security nightmares. The most common payloads are designed to make the target PC participate in Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks (DDoS), destroy data, turn the local computer into a trojan server, disable installed security software, download or drop data from other PCs, or enable remote access.

Having backdoors in a PC may result in slower system performance and heightened vulnerabilities to other malware. But the greater danger lies in the ability of the trojan controller to use the computer (in a Botnet) for illegal or criminal activities, such as launching DDoS attacks, identity theft particularly passwords and credit card data used in financial fraud, and spreading more malware. It is therefore important to make sure that your system is free from backdoor trojans viruses.

The first thing users must do is to take extra care to make sure that backdoors do not gain entry. These can be done by updating the computers security system and installing the latest patches that plugs security loopholes. One must also avoid dubious sites and should handle suspicious emails with caution ? remember that it merely takes a site drive-by or opening an email for a trojan to be installed. As the clich
